According to Ministry of Health authorities, as of March 16, Cambodia has had a total of 1,430 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and one COVID-19 related death since the onset of the pandemic in early 2020.
Travel Restrictions:
According to media reports, the Cambodian government has given provincial administrations authority to implement restrictions on travel between provinces in response to the current COVID-19 community outbreak (known as the “February 20 incident”). In addition to previously announced travel restrictions to/from Preah Sihanouk, Pailin, Kep, and Siem Reap provinces, these reports indicate that travel restrictions have also been implemented in Takeo and Tbong Khmum provinces, and certain communes in Prey Veng province.
American citizens attempting to travel between provinces and districts may encounter unannounced and unpredictable road closures, and are advised to closely monitor any announcements by local governments regarding details about travel restrictions and other measures related to the outbreak response.
Fines for Non-compliance:
As of March 12, 2021, under new Cambodian legal provisions, individuals who do not adhere to mandatory mask-wearing and social distancing may be subject to fines of $50 to $250. Repeat offenders may be subject to a fine of up to $1,250. These are the latest in the various COVID-19 related fines and penalties implemented by the Cambodian government.
COVID-19 Vaccine Information:
The Cambodian government has to date approved the Sinopharm and AstraZeneca vaccines for emergency use. According to the government, vaccination for “all foreign nationals who are currently residing and working in Cambodia” will be made available under the Cambodian COVID-19 Vaccination Plans. The Cambodian Ministry of Health has created an app and a website for individuals to register for the vaccine.
The Cambodian government has provided guidance for certain diplomatic and non-governmental organizations employing foreign nationals who wish to receive vaccines. The national government has not provided such guidance regarding procedures for U.S. citizens not employed by these organizations to receive vaccines, including any requirement to submit letters issued by the U.S. Embassy.
