Alert: Phnom Penh Curfew Extension, and Other COVID-19 Restrictions Announced

In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, including the Delta variant, the Government of Cambodia has extended the curfew for Phnom Penh through August 19, 2021. Additional restrictive measures have also been extended through August 26, 2021. Local and provincial authorities throughout the country may also implement additional restrictions. American citizens are advised to pay attention to local media and U.S. Embassy alerts for further information.

In accordance with the Phnom Penh municipal order, measures include the following:

A curfew will be implemented in Phnom Penh from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. until August 19, 2021

  • Exceptions are made for health emergencies, health services, food transportation, water and electricity services, pharmacies, gas stations, hotels, and guesthouses.
  • Travel during curfew is permitted (with identification) for diplomats, officials of UN and international financial organizations, journalists, and for travelers transiting to/from the airport.

Additional restrictive measures that remain in effect through August 26, 2021 include:

  • Prohibition on gatherings of more than 15 people unless otherwise permitted by the relevant authorities. Gatherings of family members resident in the same household are permitted.
  • Prohibition on the operation of certain businesses, including karaoke bars, nightclubs, beer gardens, resorts, parks, massage parlors, liquor shops, cinemas, theaters, museums, and gyms.
  • Prohibition on the gathering of people for the purpose of consuming alcohol.
  • Allowing restaurants to operate only for takeaway services, with no dine-in services unless the restaurant implements health and social distancing measures approved by the government.
  • Requiring mask-wearing and social distancing in all permitted gatherings and business activities.
    • Exceptions are made for health emergencies, health services, food transportation, water and electricity services, pharmacies, gas stations, hotels, and guesthouses.
    • Travel during curfew is permitted (with identification) for diplomats, officials of UN and international financial organizations, journalists, and for travelers transiting to/from the airport.
