On May 4, Ambassador Heidt hosted a reception to honor civil society organizations in Cambodia. Approximately 40 leaders of civil society organizations, including the human rights NGO Adhoc, joined the event along with colleagues from other diplomatic missions, the United Nations, and representatives from international NGOs.
The United States and many other countries have supported your work to make Cambodia a more democratic, just, and prosperous country for more than 20 years,” Ambassador Heidt said in his remarks. “A strong civil society, robust political dialogue, independent judicial system, and the will to fight genuine corruption – these are the institutions and the practices that make a country stable and strong. The United States believes that the more political space there is, the more Cambodia can achieve for its people.”
