The U.S. Embassy Phnom Penh is offering a Student Internship Program (Winter Cycle) to Cambodian students from December 2022 to April 2023.  The Embassy provides equal opportunity and fair and equitable treatment in employment to all people without regard to race, color, religion, gender, national origin, age, disability, political affiliation, marital status, or sexual orientation.

Program Eligibility

In order to be eligible for this program, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Citizens or permanent legal residents of the host country;
  2. At least 18 years old;
  3. Must be an active student at a public or private higher education institution;
  4. Must have already completed one year of studies in the institution; and
  5. Must provide a certified transcript from the last term/semester to show proof of good academic standing.
  6. Must provide a certification letter from the school certifying current enrollment.
  7. Must be able to work until end of April 2023.

Qualifications Required:

  1. General field of studies.
  2. Level III (Good Working Knowledge) Speaking/Reading/Writing English and Level IV (Fluent) Khmer are required. Language proficiency will be tested.
  3. Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Job Title:       Press and Social Media Intern
Office:            Public Affairs Section
Work Hours:  Part-time; 20 hours/week

Job Description:       

  1. Help develop social media posts for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other social media platforms and draft press summaries.
  2. Assist in the production of the Public Affairs Section (PAS)’s weekly “Let’s Chat!” Facebook Live broadcast. May be called on to do interviews.
  3. Help develop and produce videos and photos that would be used on our social media platforms.
  4. Provide assistance in working media events and press conferences.
  5. Monitor popular Khmer Facebook pages, Instagram and Twitter accounts for trends and ideas for content.

Job Title:        Cultural Affairs Intern

Job Description: 

  1. Help draft Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) and alumni newsletters and outreach materials.
  2. Assist Cultural Affairs Officer and others interview and prepare candidates for a variety of U.S. government exchange programs.
  3. Draft content about cultural activities for social media.
  4. Organize cultural events including launches, grant announcements, etc.
  5. Assist the Information Resource Assistant in running programs in the American Center, including book clubs, English clubs, film clubs and speakers.

  1. Assist in scheduling candidates and in preparing for employment tests and interviews.
  2. Assist in verifying the Time and Attendance reports submission.
  3. Assist in tracking performance management documents and update training records.
  4. Scan and file employees’ documents.
  5. Create folders for new employees.
  6. Assist in submitting and collecting documents from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

  5. Reconcile fuel receipts against the actual invoice.

Job Title:        Financial Management Intern

Job Description: 

  1. Assist in collection process for receivable account and Value-Added Tax (VAT) refund.
  2. Data entry for utilities bills (EDC) in the database/worksheet.
  3. Code funds cite for purchase requests (PR) and travel authorizations (TA).
  4. Update customers/vendors’ bank information into system.
  5. Assist in clearing un-liquidated obligation (ULO).
  6. Assist in preparing of various kinds of payment vouchers: contracts, purchase orders (PO), blanket purchase agreements (BPA), lease agreement, official residence expenses (ORE), Representation, travel claim, utility bills, telephone bills, and other miscellaneous claims from other government agencies.
  7. Assist in settling utility bills with Electricity Company, Phnom Penh Water Supply, etc.
  8. Other duties as assigned.

  1. Assist with researching and drafting political-related news summaries.
  2. Under the supervision of a Locally Employed Staff in the political unit, perform Internet research for labor-related reports.
  3. Attend meetings and events with local staff, and assist with drafting notes and readouts.

  1. Assist in goods inspection and receiving.
  2. Assist in supply preparation per approved requisition and issuing supply to customer.
  3. Assist in annual preparation of houses (make ready process).
  4. Assist in departure and arrival inventory review.
  5. Assist supply clerks with issuing expendable supplies.
  6. Participate in Property & Supply meetings, activities, and projects.
  7. Assist in annual inventory review and auction preparation.

Job Description:

  1. Admin work: creating flyers for events, updating and organizing the welcome kit binders.
  2. Assist with updating the TV monitors regularly.
  3. Help during events.
  4. Support the office during short-staffed period and other assigned tasks like keeping track of new arrival families dates.
  5. Print CLO community photo events and update the office calendar and board.

Job Description:

  1. Assist the Protocol Team with their day-to-day work.
  2. Process incoming and outgoing correspondence.
  3. Assist in the handling of invitations for Embassy events.
  4. Assist in the tracking and updating of Embassy contact database – Using the 4th of July list as starter.
  5. Other ad hoc assignments.
  6. Work with team to re-organize workspace.
  7. Assist in identifying and sorting paper files.
  8. Assist in destroying and/or scanning paper files into the Cloud.

Job Title:        Health Unit Intern

Job Description:

  1. Design and implement a health promotion program/class for Embassy Employees.
  2. Assist with answering phones, scheduling appointments, filing.
  3. Successfully complete the Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and Bloodborne Pathogen online classes.
  4. Inventory: work with other staff to inventory medical and training supplies.
  5. Assist clinical staff in direct patient care.
