Ambassador Heidt swore in the 10th group of Peace Corps Cambodia volunteers today in a special ceremony at the HIMAWARI HOTEL APARTMENTS in Phnom Penh. A new class of 69 volunteers just finished their training and will be working in Cambodia’s provinces for two years. The volunteers live with local host families and work side-by-side with local counterparts on community health and education projects.
The Ambassador was joined at the ceremony by H.E. Im Koch, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports. The ceremony featured remarks from Deputy Chief of Mission Julie Chung. Also speaking today were Peace Corps Deputy Chief of Staff Becca Sharp and Peace Corps-Cambodia Country Director Sue Dwyer.
The ceremony was also an opportunity to celebrate Peace Corps-Cambodia’s 10th anniversary. Counting the current group, more than 500 Peace Corps volunteers have served in Cambodia, serving the people of 16 provinces.
