Excellency Khieu Kanharith, distinguished guests, ladies, and gentlemen. Good evening and thank you for your warm welcome.
It is a genuine pleasure to join RMA Cambodia in the launch of the all-new 2015 Ford Mustang. For more than 50 years, the Mustang has been considered as the quintessential American vehicle. Whether it is seen in a Hollywood film or up close and personal, the Ford Mustang evokes a feeling of excitement whenever you see it. That is why I am so proud to see such an iconic part of American culture return to the roads of Cambodia.
In the United States, it’s hard to miss the smiles from Americans – including myself – when they see a Mustang. As a native of southern California, I have fond memories of watching convertible Mustangs cruise by along the Pacific Coast Highway…and being jealous that I couldn’t have one for myself. With Ford’s flagship vehicle returning to Cambodia, others will have the chance to build their own wonderful memories with friends and families. Thanks to your efforts, I can now look forward to watching these new Mustangs on the roads of Cambodia.
The 2015 Ford Mustang represents yet another significant accomplishment for the Ford Motor Company, which after 110 years, remains one of the largest family-controlled company in the world. The Mustang is a classic example of American innovation from the company that first introduced cars to the United States in 1909 and later survived the Great Depression to remain one of the world’s leading car manufacturers today. Frankly, I can’t think of any other automobile that better represents the hard-work, ingenuity and vision of the American entrepreneur.
I’m particularly excited by what the return of the Mustang represents: an opportunity to strengthen economic ties between the United States and Cambodia. Economic and commercial engagement promotes jobs in both countries, fosters stability, and improves the lives of average citizens. RMA Cambodia and the presence of this beloved American product in the open market give multinational companies a chance to see what can be achieved in Cambodia today. Seeing the Mustang on the open road will help serve as a reminder that Cambodia – through its pro-business policies and support of economic growth – is indeed “open for business.”
Working together with U.S. businesses, the United States hopes to expand our unwavering commitment to Cambodia and the region. On behalf of the U.S. Embassy in Phnom Penh, I would like to thank you all for letting me be a part of this landmark event. Congratulations on bringing the 2015 Ford Mustang back to Cambodia, and I wish you all continued success.
Thank you.
