Screening of American Documentary Film “Generation Startup”

Released on May 15, 2018

The U.S. Embassy in Phnom Penh is pleased to announce that American filmmaker Cheryl Miller Houser will be visiting Cambodia May 16-19, 2018, to screen her documentary film about young American entrepreneurs, called “Generation Startup.”

The documentary film features the front lines of entrepreneurship in America, capturing the struggles and triumphs of six recent college graduates who put everything on the line to build startups in Detroit. Shot over 17 months, it’s an honest, in-the-trenches look at what it takes to launch a startup. Directed by Academy Award winner Cynthia Wade and award-winning filmmaker Cheryl Miller Houser, the film celebrates risk-taking, urban revitalization, and diversity.

The purpose of the American film showcase (AFS) program is to develop mutual understanding between the United States and Cambodia by connecting American film experts with Cambodian filmmakers and youth through screenings, workshops, and panel discussions on topics related to the themes of the movie, which include entrepreneurship and women’s empowerment.
