Screening of the Documentary Film: The Killing Fields of Dr. Haing Ngor

The U.S. Embassy in Phnom Penh, in partnership with Bophana Center, invites members of the media to attend the international premiere of the new documentary film The Killing Fields of Dr. Haing Ngor by U.S. filmmaker Arthur Dong. The premiere will take place on Friday, August 21, 2015, at 5:30 p.m., at Major Cineplex by Cellcard, 2nd Floor, AEON Mall. This screening is by invitation only. Additional screenings will be open to the public as follows:

  • August 22, at 6:30 pm: Haing Ngor Smao Kgney Primary School, Takeo Province.
  • August 25, at 6:30 pm: Phare Ponleu Selpak, Battambang Province.
  • August 26, at 6:30 pm: Center for Khmer Studies (CKS), Wat Damnak, Siem Reap Province.
  • August 28, at 3:00 pm: Major Cineplex by Cellcard, 2nd Floor, AEON Mall, Phnom Penh.

The Killing Fields of Dr. Haing Ngor tells the story of the Cambodian genocide through the words and stories of one of its most famous survivors. Dr. Haing S. Ngor was a physician and actor best known for his portrayal of journalist Dith Pran in the 1984 film The Killing Fields, for which Dr. Ngor won the 1985 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. Dr. Ngor emigrated to the United States after surviving the Khmer Rouge regime and died in 1996.
