Location: Cambodia, countrywide
Released date: July 24, 2018
This security message is being issued to alert U.S. citizens residing in, or traveling to, Cambodia that the upcoming national parliamentary elections on July 29 may spark political gatherings, demonstrations, or movements of security personnel. Although recent political gatherings in Cambodia have been largely nonviolent, demonstrations or gatherings could turn confrontational without warning. The Embassy encourages U.S. citizens to:
- Avoid large crowds and immediately vacate any area where crowds are gathering
- Avoid demonstrations and election-related activities
- Avoid unnecessary travel throughout the provinces, as roads may be crowded
- Keep friends and family informed of your travel plans
- Make contingency travel plans if necessary
- Monitor local media for updates
In the event of demonstrations, current information will be posted on the U.S. Embassy’s Alerts and Messages website pages.
