This Sports Envoy program aims to develop mutual understanding between the United States and Cambodia by connecting with Cambodian youth through skateboarding clinics at non-governmental organizations and private high schools and universities. The program will also celebrate the inclusion of skateboarding as an official Olympic sport starting in the 2020 Summer Olympic Games and the upcoming Southeast Asian Skateboarding Championships. In addition, the program is intended to support the Cambodian government’s efforts to develop youth sports.
The following events are open to the media:
Thursday, August 3
- 09:00 am: Meeting with Director General of Sports of the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports (Meeting Room A).
- 10:00 am: Student talk about skate culture, skate diplomacy, and skateboarding’s place in promoting education. The American Corner, Pannasastra University of Cambodia.
Saturday, August 5
Time 9-11a.m.: Public event at National Olympic Stadium (Space in front of Indoor Basketball Court). The skateboard envoy, together with some Cambodian skateboarders, will tell the public about his love for the sport and then give a skateboarding demonstration. Interested participants may also be able to try out skateboarding. Skateboards and protective equipment will be provided. Members of the public who wish to attend need to sign up with the Embassy by sending an email to: PASPhnomPenh@state.gov. Space is limited.
