PHNOM PENH, Cambodia – To mark the 245th anniversary of U.S. independence, the United States Embassy Phnom Penh is delighted to announce its celebration of the 4th of July, America’s Independence Day. This year the Embassy posted a video spectacular on its Facebook page on July 4, 2021.

U.S. Ambassador W. Patrick Murphy and Ms. Kathleen Norman presided over the video celebration this year from the Ambassador’s residence in Phnom Penh.  The video includes a holiday message from Ambassador Murphy, a Color Guard ceremony by members of the U.S. Marines Corps, and the National Anthems of the United States and the Kingdom of Cambodia performed by local artists from Baramey Production.

In his remarks, Ambassador Murphy noted that America’s Independence Day inspires people around the world to seek freedom and other universal rights. Since 1776, the United States has been striving to form a perfect union, he said, adding “We are proud that the United States stands for the unalienable rights all people should enjoy: life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”

“These rights include cherished freedoms of expression, assembly, worship, due process, and government that is of the people, by the people, and for the people,” the Ambassador said.

As part of the July 4thvideo presentation, Cambodia’s Phare Ponleu Selpak circus created a stunning, hybrid animated and live acrobatic performance entitled “Freedom Is a Summer Blossom.”
