Supported by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented through a partnership between the Royal University of Phnom Penh and the University Kebangsaan Malaysia, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Youth Volunteer Program (AYVP) will close a month of activities to develop skills as eco-leaders and volunteers in Phnom Penh on Friday, August 28, 2015.
Members of the media are invited to attend the closing ceremony on Friday, August 28, at 2:30 p.m. in the Conference Hall at the Institute of Technology of Cambodia on Russian Conf. Boulevard, Phnom Penh.
Among the speakers to address the ceremony will be Ms. Julie Chung, Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Phnom Penh, H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, Prof. Datuk Dr. Noor Azlan Ghazali, Vice-Chancellor of the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, and Institute of Technology of Cambodia’s Director General, Dr. Romny Om.
During their training, 49 ASEAN youth volunteers – including 11 from Cambodia – developed their leadership skills through hands-on activities to discover how ASEAN youth can play a role in their communities, in particular, by protecting the environment. As part of their activities, they engaged with communities at the Krakor Floating Village of Pursat Province in projects related to water sanitation and personal hygiene. Friday’s ceremony will feature remarks from the Head of Commune of the floating village as well as a presentation of the best video documentary produced by the volunteers.
AYVP works with communities to develop innovative solutions to the social, cultural, economic, and environmental challenges of the region while forging a sense of ASEAN identity.
