What is 16 Days Campaign?

16 Days campaign is also known as “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence Campaign.” It runs from November 25 (International Day Against Violence against Women) to December 10 (International Human Rights Day). International Day Against Violence against Women was first declared in 1981 to commemorate the violent assassination of the Mirabal sisters on November 25, 1960 as a result of their activism against the dictator Rafael Trujillo in the Dominican Republic. While violence against women takes different forms according to its cultural context, the problem exists everywhere and working on the issue offers unique opportunities to build bridges across cultures.
